Minneapolis Star Tribune endorses IRV for statewide elections

In Minneapolis this election, the voters endorsed using Instant Runoff Voting for city level elections. During the campaign, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune endorsed the ballot measure.

Now the Star Tribune is advocating using Instant Runoff Voting for statewide elections. The Governor won re-election with a plurality rather than a majority and the Star Tribune sees the problem with such a situation. The state of Washington has similar problems. It is probably just a matter of time before the people of Washington consider a statewide solution to the the pick-a-party problem.

County Officials Should be up to the task

The News Tribune notes that Amendment 3 has now passed. During the campaign, Auditor Pat McCarthy committed to the best implementation of Instant Runoff Voting in the country if the voters passed Amendment 3.

The News Tribune sees no reason why McCarthy won't keep her commitment. We agree.
